"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds." Samuel Adams

Perhaps the Founders were wiser than we are....

Yes, it's a nice idea designed to foster a sense of camaraderie and bipartisanship, but I believe it's time for the Senate's 60 vote rule to be jettisoned. Why should everything come to a grinding stop in the name of empowering the minority? The constitutional means for acquiring power is called an election, not Senate rules. I haven't taken time to look for it in the Federalist Papers, but could it be that the designers of our government understood that requiring anything more than a simple majority was a prescription for continual gridlock. Perhaps this is why they authorized the VP to vote in the event of a tie. So even though it could hinder the conservative agenda when the Republicans once again lose the majority (which is inevitable), I say, "Let the chips fall where they will." The current situation is a grotesque display of incompetence and irresponsibility on both sides. Not only that, it is an embarrassment to the good people of our nation.

not as embarrassing as it would be if the world watches us kick out 800,000 dreamers.

Straw man, Tom. No one is promoting kicking these people out anymore.

Correct, yet for over a year all the republicans have done is give DACA lip service. And let's be honest, no one knows what Trump really wants to do with them. Trump's p has never been an honest broker on most issues. The fact is, come early March ICE can start rounding them up under the authority of POTUS unless congress acts.

Which ICE could have been doing for the past century until a couple of years ago, but have they? No. Why? Because these folks are not a high priority. Instead, ICE has been more interested in keeping illegals out and ridding our country of slime balls like the low-life creature that killed Kate Steinle. Now they have to do this without one scintilla of help from the State of California. In fact, if anyone dares to lend ICE a hand, he could find himself being arrested and prosecuted. That makes sense!

ICE was deporting when they found or stumbled upon them until Obama redirected their efforts to focus on the border crossings and the bad guys. What DACA did was allow the dreamers to come out from the shadows and live a more productive life, to feel free as long as they met and followed the rules. All that goes away for the ones who could not renew by the cut off date last October. Starting in March if they find you, it's bye bye unless congress does something. This blog is not about bad guys crossing the border or California being a sanctuary state. It is about DACA, the rules of DACA, and the congress doing their job.

The Dems are giving him the wall for this. It's the only way he will ever get that stupid wall of his.

This post was not about DACA at all. You turned it into an immigration discussion. My original post was about eliminating the 60-vote rule in the Senate. Aside from that, the head of Homeland Security told Congress just last week that they are accepting applications right now for renewing DACA status.
