Business Management 101

The pupose of a business is to make a profit = capitalism
The purpose of a business is to provide jobs = socialism

I'm amazed at how many so-called Conservatives have lost sight of these basic concepts, not to mention the fact that, in the end, the first provides far more better paying jobs than the second. This shows just how desperately education in this country needs a radical overhaul.

I majored in Business Management and every business course I took I was taught businesses are there to make money. Pretty much a no brainer I think. Why run a business if you're not going to make money? I would say it's not the education system at fault, it's the political system. (and that Newt is a cry baby).

The education system exists to crank out subjects who will fall in line with the political system.

If that's the case Brian, the educators must be a pretty conservative bunch based upon the POTUSes over the past 40 years. Would certainly explain why the economy is in such a shambles. :)

Is Sidney ever gonna get well?

The Washington establishment and the bureaucracy are not conservative. Conservative, "classical liberal" economic principles have not been applied by the federal government.

It's not just cry-baby Newt who is trashing Romney over the cold-hearted way he profiteered at the expense of the poor powerless employees. The inimitable Ms. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is echoing everything Newt has said and more. In fact, Romney's work at Bain Capital may well be the prime area of attack against him going into the genereal election. Frankly, I hope it is.

Does this mean your conceding the republican nominee to be Romney? Your post was about so-called conservatives, not Democrats. i would expect Dems to attack him on some of the things Bain did, but you are right in that I would have never expected so-called conservatives to do it. When people find out that Romney is paying around 14-15% in federal taxes, that'll doom him to runner up status.

I stated over a year ago (on this blog I believe) that I thought Romney would be the nominee. Regardless of what I wish would happen, I still think that is the most likely scenario. And you are correct in calling those Republicans who recently attacked Romney on his activities at Bain as "so-called conservatives." That's exectly what they are. They may be conservative in some areas, but they have betrayed a way of thinking that is diametrically opposed to true Conservatism.

define for me what is a true conservative and who in our politics fits that definition.

Take your time, I'm out until tomorrow

A true American Conservative believes in a set of core principles which include the following propositions: 1) that the federal government should operate only within the limits placed upon it by the Constitution; 2) that government has a responsibility to protect innocent life, which includes the unborn (who are the most innocent of all); 3) that governments should raise taxes only in sufficient amounts to cover the necessary costs of Constitutional operations; 4) that governments have a responsibility to protect the rights and freedoms of the citizens by maintaining a strong military force, an effective law enforcement capacity, and an impartial judicial system; 5) that governments should provide a non-activist judiciary that does not legislate from the bench or “discover” heretofore unknown rights and privileges in the Constitution but rules according to the doctrine of original intent; 6) that the law-abiding citizens should be free to pursue happiness, which includes earning as much money as they can legally and owning whatever property they are able to acquire, and that every individual is the arbiter of how much is enough; 7) that the American economy is not a fixed size to be divided up among the people, which is to say that when one person earns a large amount of money it in no way prevents any other person from earning however much he is able to earn; 8) that wealth is created by extracting raw materials from the earth and converting them into usable items and developing ideas into practical applications that will benefit society; 9) that for a society to thrive over the long haul it must be structured around certain unchanging moral principles variously called natural law, biblical morality, or Judeo-Christian ethics; and 10) that in the matter of international relations and America’s global responsibilities, American weakness—whether it be militarily, politically, or economically—is provocative to the enemies of freedom.

I know quite a few people who would agree completely with this description of true Conservatism, but I doubt any of the present Republican candidates would, irrespective of what they may say about themselves.
