TJ's insight on the two universal parties
Men by there constitutions are naturally divided into two parties: (1) Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes. (2) Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depository of the public interests. In every country these two parties exist; and in every one where they are free to think, speak, and write, they will declare themselves.
Letter from Thomas Jefferson to Henry Lee (August 10, 1824)

Amen. Communists don't reform; they destroy.
I guess we can add one more achievement to the list, since President Obama has now placed his signature on a document to extend the Patriot Act one more year. This should effectively kill the accusation that the Patriot Act is a right-wing conspiracy to strip away our freedom. Either it doesn't really strip away any of our freedoms or it's just as much a left-wing conspiracy. Should we be holding our breath for the hailstorm of criticism from the left?
