According to data collected in 2005 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, abortion killed at least 203,991 African-Americans in the 36 states and two cities (New York City and the District of Columbia) that reported abortions by race. During that same year, according to the CDC, a total of 198,385 African-Americans nationwide died from heart disease, cancer, strokes, accidents, diabetes, homicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases combined. These were the seven leading causes of death for black Americans that year.
As Ruthy Ginsburg recently acknowledged, "Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion" (July 2009). Yes, she really said that.

It is unfortunate that abortion has gotten to these kinds of levels. Not sure what Ruthy has to do with this. As for her quote, if you recall there was quite a bit of conversation going on in the late 60's and early 70's about population control. Nixon even put together a commission to look at it and make recommendations, all the pretty much rejected. One of the recommendations was to liberalize abortion laws and allow government funds to pay for them. That commission report was entered as evidence on Roe's behalf. I don't think the courts decision mentioned anything about population growth in its opinion so I kind of doubt that report carried much weight. Anyway, Ruthy is right that there was a concern back then, but she is not saying it is part of her thinking now or back then. This part of the interview you are quoting was really a response to the case of Harris v. McRae on the Hyde amendment.

What ridiculous nit-picking, Tom. You don't even meet the issues or get the point. You don't even care. That's tragic.
Of course, Ginsberg just exprersses a sentiment that was espoused by no less than Margaret Sanger herself. A very substantial part of the eugenics movement was to limit the population of "inferior" races. Likewise, such was a primary goal of Planned Parenthood. There are no surprises here.
Tom, I am totally aware of everything you have said. My point is, here's a justice on the United States Supreme Court casually acknowledging the real motive behind legalizing abortion. Amazingly, she did not go on to condemn it as the viscious racist crime against humanity that it is (amazing because she's a Jew who lived during the Halocaust). Let's be honest, Tom, Roe vs Wade had nothing to do with discovering some heretofore undiscovered constitutional right to privacy. It had everything to do with making a legal way of eliminating members of the populations we don't want too many of. This is the idealogical twin of Naziism. A few progressive lawyers decided that this was a worthwhile public policy and sought out a case by which they come make it happen. Even Brennan has admitted as much. The shame is that the had the power to do it.
