"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds." Samuel Adams

Look at the original

If you want to know what it means to be a real Christian, you don't look at the Catholic crusaders, or Martin Luther and the Reformers, or Oral Roberts or Billy Graham. You look at the original Christians: the ones who came along immediately after Jesus. Fortunately we can do that by reading the Book of Acts in the New Testament. Likewise, if you want to know what it means to be a real Muslim, you don't look at the typical modern Muslims, such as Karem Abdul Jabbar, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), or even Louis Farrakhan. No, you look at the original Muslims: the ones who came along immediately after Muhammad. Fortunately this is also easy to do.

Having read extensively about the early Christian era and the early Islamic era, it is interesting to note the differences. I challenge anyone to read about the life of Peter and compare it to the life of Abu Bakr, the first successor to Muhammad. It is also interesting to note that the vast majority of Christians today consider those who attempt to live out authentic Christianity after the model of the original Christians to be fanatics and Jesus freaks. Admittedly, when compared to today's limp-wristed Christianity, the original does look rather excessive. But which is the real thing? Likewise, the majority of modern Muslims look with disbain at those who are attempting to follow the model of the original Muslims. But for anyone who cares to look at the original, it is obvious that ISIS is far closer to the original than Congressman Keith Ellison. I wonder which is the real thing?

and neither "real" christians or muslims have a right to inflict there beliefs onto others.

Real Christians never try to impose their beliefs on others. They realize that only willing obedience means anything to God. Real Muslims are perfectly happy to impose their beliefs on others. Just compare the originals.

so these guys that go to Russia and Uganda(?) to help them criminalize homosexuality are not real christians? AFA are not real christians?

I think they both use fear. I remember a guy coming to my house one time to try to instill the fear of the rapture into me. Thankfully, I declined. I'll take my chances.

People oppose same-sex marriage and even homosexual conduct for a variety of reasons. Some because of the Bible, some because of the Koran, some because they recognize it degrades society generally. We all have a right to compete in the arena of ideas and to seek to have our views prevail through the legislative process. The basis for our positions on various issues is irrelevant. If the people of Uganda criminalize conduct that has been considered a perversion for millennia, that is there right. Whether the people who promote this are real Christians or not is not for me to say. All I'm saying is that real Christians realize you cannot coerce faith. Historically, Muslims have had no problem coercing it.

Let's face it, the laws against murder and theft are based on the ancient Judeo-Christian moral code because it was understood that this was the best way to order a society. It used to be that adultery and abortion were illegal for the same reason. Today the majority of Americans no longer esteem biblical values. But just because the people have changed the law does not mean the now-legal conduct is moral. And if it were to be made once again illegal, it would not be a matter of Christians imposing their faith on unbelievers, it would be people of all sorts determining what they consider to be the best way to order a society.

When I came by your house all those years ago to tell you about the rapture, I didn't come just to cause you to be fearfu; I came to try to persuade you to give your live over to Jesus Christ. I didn't brow beat you, and I don't believe I ever brought the subject up again. I realize that unless you bow the knee volutarily, it as no spiritual benefit. I do continue to hope that you will one day bow.

Tom, and homosexuals don't have a right to inflict others with their beliefs. But they do and you best make them a cake or you can be sued and bashed, shut down, jailed. Hey wait, this is America, home of the free, at least we used to be. Now fear is instilled by throwing people in jail for practicing their faith. And the other article is correct, they don't dare challenge the Muslims on their stance on homosexuality, I believe it's for fear they will be beheaded. Hypocrisy is a disease.
