So our new president says this country needs a new declaration of independence. Presumably and implicitly, that old 18th century document just doesn't cut it anymore.
So what's this new manifesto to contain? Well, the messiah says we need to declare independence from ideology, small thinking, prejudice and bigotry.
Let's set aside for a moment the utter banality of this statement and just translate it into English. What the one is saying is that he wants us to be free from the ideology of the right (his political philosophy, of course, isn't ideology; it's just an expression of the way every normal person thinks). Ideology, by their definition, can only be conservative.
So sure, let's get rid of that. And of course, the same is true for all the other things we need to be free of: Small thinking? That's the kind of thinking that disagrees with me! Bigotry and prejudice? Only white males can be guilty of these things (again, by definition) so of course we want to be free of them.. . . and them?
There is no end to this man's arrogance, foolishness, and cynicism. he's obviously a narcissist; I believe he goes beyond that to megalomania.

The UK Guardian has reported the following: "Barack Obama has only four years to save the world. That is the stark assessment of Nasa scientist and leading climate expert Jim Hansen who last week warned only urgent action by the new president could halt the devastating climate change that now threatens Earth."
I predict he will do it.
Hansen has been shown to be a fraud, basing many of his assertions on data he knew - or should have known - to be flawed. It's becoming more and more obvious that the true "deniers" are those who insist upon pushing their global warming agenda in the face of all evidence to the contrary. Unfortunately, Obama's cabinet is top heavy with global warming evangelists. He will follow their advice since their agendas complement each other: both seek the end of the industrial west and the freedom that led to western supremacy in all matters economic, political, and cultural.
The words of Laurie Dobson, flaming liberal from Maine: “People give Obama all kinds of excuses because they want so much to believe in him. That's how they make a tyrant. If we do our job as citizens, then he could be a good president. It all depends on us keeping him in line.” Wow, you would almost think these were the words of Thomas Jefferson. And she is right, since obviously the law itself is inadequate to keep this man from becoming a tyrant. And the government as a body won't do it, since it is little more than a "good-ole-boy" system. So it is up to us, the irate and tireless minority. I therefore commit myself as of noon today, January 20, 2009, to stay as irate and as tireless as I can muster in setting brush fires in the minds of as many of the American people as I can reach.

Bill, I could not have put it better than your description of Obama's intentions. This guy is scary. He is not even the president yet, and he is talking and acting like a tyrant. That this country is not in an uproar illustrates how woefully ignorant the people have become.
Have you ever know someone who constantly tried to make himself seem like someone special by putting down the people around him? Of course, nearly everyone around such a person can see through this patently self-serving ploy. But isn't this the basic rhetorical line of virtually all of Barack Obama's speeches, yesterday's being a glaring example. Not only did the sparkling new president put down his predecessor (which is his standard fare), he also put down every other participant in the political process back to the time of George Washington. In Obama's mind, for the past 200 years we have acted as a nation like little children, with all that ugly partisan bickering (much like children on the playground arguing about who will be first in line coming in from recess). But now, under the wisdom and maturity of his stellar leadership, we will enter a new era of American adulthood. Of course, this postures him in the most grandiose way as being better, wiser, and and more mature than all of his predecessors, a proposition that is hard to justifiy in light of his empty record of significant achievements. Therefore, since he cannot be the best, the one, the messiah, by virtue of his accomplishments as a political figure, he does it by putting down everyone else around him. Isn't this some sort of psychological condition? By the way, what is his alternative to partisanship? What does he mean by national adulthood? It can only be one thing: if debating and arguing over national policy is childish, then the answer is ONE POLITICAL VIEWPOINT. That's the metamessage I took from yesterday's speech.
Dave, your analysis is spot on. Yes, Obama builds himself up by tearing others down because that's all he has to offer. And yes, the implicit point behind Obama's rhetoric is basicaly "one party, one people." Very disturbing indeed, given that this nation's true strength lies in the freedom to hash out, argue, and grapple with policy matters from a wide range of perspectives. Believe me, there are no ideological disputes or petty bickering in China, in Cuba, in the Soviet Union, N. Korea, and so on. Those, presumably, are fully mature societies.
And yes, Obama's many low blows in his inaugural address against the Bush record were not only uncalled for and ungracious, but false. Just as one small example, he says we must not sacrifice our values at the altar of security. Well, in fact, we have done no such thing, but Obama leaves the clear impression that that is exactly what we have done under the tyrant Bush. It's a cheap rhetorical device and one he has mastered.
Obama is a mean, rough, and angry man wrapped up in a very smooth and beguiling package.
Question: How long will this guy fool most of the people?
I will add phony, arrogant, despicable. There is going to be plenty of dissent, if I have anything so say about it. I will resist this Stalinist with all of my might. The truth will ultimately win, as it always does.
