Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not YET sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favour; a long habit of not thinking a thing WRONG, gives it a superficial appearance of being RIGHT, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. Thomas Paine, writing from Philadelphia, February 14, 1776

It's meaningless, Brian. McCain is an absolutely spent force. He's fishing for smiley face headlines from the NY Times, is all. The Republican Party will very quickly move way beyond him. He won't be remembered with affection or nostalgia.
Reminds me of the scene in Casablanca where Ilsa says she'll never leave Rick. He basically says, oh yes you will:
"Where I'm going," Rick says, "you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that. Now, now... Here's looking at you kid."
McCain won't be a part of where the Republican Party needs to go - and his post-election spectacles (the Palin disgrace, the Obama disgrace, etc) won't amount to a hill of beans. Someday, he'll understand that.
Bill, great quote from a great movie.
